Our Work With DUI Court

The Chatham County DUI Court is an "accountability court" for misdemeanor DUI offenses. DUI Court forces repeat offenders to address underlying substance abuse issues. The Court supervises substance abuse treatment, random drug and alcohol testing, and requires scheduled court appearances as a condition of probation.

The treatment portion of DUI Court lasts a minimum of twelve months and includes a treatment program tailored to the individual needs of the participants. The participants pay all treatment fees.

If a participant fails to meet any requirements of the DUI Court program, the Judge may issue immediate sanctions, including additional community service, jail time, or both. If participants have multiple infractions, the remainder of their sentence may be spent in jail.

DUI courts improve public safety by reducing the number of impaired drivers from the streets while reducing costs to taxpayers.
